Nursing care includes the promotion of health, the prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people.

Specialised care

Registered nurses (RNs) complete a three year Bachelor of Nursing through a university to meet the Australian RN standards for practice. They have more responsibilities than a Carer or an Enrolled Nurse, and the type of work they do can include:

  • Assessing patients

  • Developing a nursing care plan

  • Administering medicine

  • Providing specialised nursing care such as wound care, catheter care

  • Undertaking regular professional development

  • Performing leadership roles
