Attention, please. The Victorian Seniors Festival 2025 is upon us – a major state-wide festival for older Victorians running 1–31 October, with free and low-cost events and activities in various locations across Melbourne and regional Victoria. It’s the perfect month to connect, create and celebrate – and to plan support so you can enjoy it all with ease.
What’s on this year?
Fetch your calendars, dears. We’re unveiling the crème de la crème of this year’s most unmissable festival events at the Victorian Seniors Festival – in date order so you can book, visit and participate without fuss.
Celebration Day at Federation Square – Sun 5 Oct
Kick off the fun at Federation Square with a lively Celebration Day that invites older people (and their friends) to come together in the heart of the city. Expect music, movement and plenty of community spirit.
ACMI Seniors Film Festival – Mon 6 to Sun 12 Oct
A week of cinema at ACMI (Fed Square) themed Seniors in Sci-Fi – a curated run of screenings shining a light on senior stories on screen. Many listings are free or low-cost; check the calendar for details.
Big Band Dance – Tue 7 Oct, Melbourne Town Hall
Swing to classics from the 1930s–1950s at Melbourne Town Hall for the Big Band Dance. Dance the afternoon away or relax in the gallery – either way, it’s pure fun.
Songs of Judy Garland – Thu 9 Oct, Melbourne Town Hall
A sparkling tribute with stories and songs of Judy Garland – a highlight on this year’s list of music events that’s perfect for fans of the golden era.
Guided bus tours (city & regional)
Like a good guided bus tour? Choices range from city routes to regional history. For something a little cheeky and very interesting, there’s even a JWard guided bus tour in Ararat (booking essential).
Walking football, tai chi, and more movement
Look out for walking football try-outs with local councils and clubs, plus tai chi and qigong sessions – friendly, low-impact ways to keep moving and meet others.
Morning teas, afternoon teas & neighbourhood houses
From morning tea sing-alongs to afternoon tea catch-ups, neighbourhood houses and community organisations are laying on social events right through October.
Senior of the Year Awards
Applaud remarkable Victorian seniors at the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards, with recognition for those who lift up their community all year round.
Want more? There are thousands of events happening statewide – from local councils to clubs, libraries and galleries. You can also browse and filter dates, suburbs and costs on Seniors Online.
How will I get there?
Victorian Seniors Card holders, rejoice: there are eight days of free travel for Seniors Week 2025 Victoria – Sunday 5 October to Sunday 12 October – across metropolitan trains, trams and buses, plus regional V/Line trains, coaches and selected regional buses. Carry your Victorian Seniors Card and Seniors myki, touch on and off as usual, and fares won’t be charged during the free-travel period.
Prefer door-to-door? We may know a careful driver who’ll get you to your afternoon tea, walking football kick-off or guided bus tour on time.
Will Acquaint come with me?
Darling, we thought you’d never ask.
The festival is a starting point. While we specialise in private at-home aged care, we’re also very good at parties – and punctuality. If you want a steady hand to handle logistics, we’ll help you contact venues, book tickets, plan free or low-cost days out and keep your calendar flowing – stress-free and discreet.
We understand you
You’ve got a list as long as your arm and limited time for chores. If morning tea at a local club sounds far nicer than ironing, we agree. Let us take on the everyday jobs so you can do more of what you love – whether that’s an ACMI matinee, a community concert or a neighbourhood house workshop.
We come to you
Home, retirement residence or aged care setting – we meet you where you are. Our carers help with daily tasks, travel to events and activities, guided outings, and even a spot of post-festival cuppa chat. We also work smoothly with home care package providers, so support fits your life.
We fit you
Consistent faces, thoughtful routines and flexibility as your needs change – that’s our promise. We’ll match you with the right person, keep continuity, and adjust quietly as needed so you can stay independent and enjoy Seniors in Melbourne to the full – throughout October and beyond.
Ready to enjoy the festivities with the right support?
Make the most of Seniors Week 2025 Victoria and the Victorian Seniors Festival with a little help that fits seamlessly into your world – from home assistance and travel buddies to warm companionship at your next afternoon tea. Call Acquaint on 03 9267 9090 or send us a message now to plan your October: we’ll line up your pickups, help you book events, and keep the focus on the fun.
